'The Flough' is back in June
The 'Flough' the traditional Irish cottage outside Muff was open for one night only in April for a special party, but will resume the normal programme in June.
Nights at the Flough as those who have been there will know are unique, the cottage itself in its original state - open hearth, settle bed, dresser, churn, etc. for those who have never been there the night starts with the home made bread, home made jam and apple tart. Afterwards the group re-inact "An American Wake" through song, dance and story, taking you back to the time a son or daughter of the house would be sailing for America the next day - a night to remember. Think August weekend - think Festival this year the Festival will take place from Friday 1st August to Monday 4th August. Some of the preliminary events which may be of interest are: The Mayoral Campaign: Any organisation or individual wishing to raise money for their independent charity can put forward a candidate for the this election, - its an excellent way to fundraise. Names to be given to Mary Rose McLaughlin, The Village Cafe, before the end of May. Garden competition: All you garden enthusiasts will now have a chance to enter your garden in the competition. There are five different categories - Best overall, large, small, ?...new and business section - also for the best garden in Grove Cottages and Craig Park. if you are interested contact Joe O'Donnell on 0864038539. Entries must be in before the end of June. Back to back competition. This very popular competition will be starting soon. Any pub or individual teams wishing to enter this 1,000 euro competition can do so by giving your name to Mary Rose McLaughlin or any committee member.
The Festival is an ideal time for families and friends to get together, this is your festival, and your ideas would be welcome by the committee, do make the effort to take part and make this year's festival the biggest and best to date. The Scoil Naomh Brid Parent's Association is holding their annual fund-raising dance in Foody's Lodge, Quigley's Point, on Friday 23rd May. Music by the "Country Boys". There will be door and floor prizes. All are welcome.
Community Bingo every Saturday night in St. Mary's Community Hall at 9.15 p.m. Your continued support is appreciated.
The winners in this week's Sinn Fin Thr Chonaill Lotto draw were Carmel McCrory, Ballintra and Brian Kelly, Letterkenny. Each had 3 numbers correct and received 50 euro each. The winning numbers were 8:18:19:21. There was no jackpot winner, next weeks jackpot will be 2,875 euro.
The Muff Ceili Club are holding their annual Summer Ceili tonight on Friday night, 23rd May in St. Mary's Community Hall. Music by the ever popular Martin Duggan, dancing from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission 5 euro including supper. This ceili always attracts ceili goers from all parts of Inishowen, Derry and Tyrone. Even if you don't dance come along and listen to the music.
The Muff Sheltered Housing Collection taken up at Masses last weekend amounted to 1,215 euro and 269. The committee would like to thank the people for their generosity.
The casting for roles in the musical production of Oliver which will take place in St. Mary's Hall, Buncrana on Saturday 24th May. Children's auditions (aged 8-11) from 10-1 p.m. Adult auditions from 2-4 p.m. Advance information pack from greasepaintproductions@hotmail.co.uk.
The Parish Mission will open next sunday in Muff at 6 p.m. The speaker is Fr. Aiden Troy.
Redcastle Sports Day will be held this year on the 1st June at Foyle Park commencing at 2 p.m. All the usual events will take place - do come along as there will be something to attract both the young and the not so young. Admission adults 3 euro and children 1 euro.
The numbers drawn in last week's Quigleys Point Swifts were 2:3:5:10:12 and 15. There was no jackpot winner. Hugh doherty, Old Road, Buncrana and Brian McColgan, Ture matched five numbers and won 30 euros each. This weeks jackpot will be 1010 euro and the draw will be on tuesday night.
The Quigleys Point Scout Camp are organising a ceili in St. Mary's Community Hall next Friday, 30th May. The music for the evening is by the very well known McElhinney Family, so a good night's dancing is ensured. Admission 5 euro including supper. Winners in this week's Parish Draw were Shaun Robb, Grove Cottages- 300 euro; Sandra McLaughlin - 200 euro and Marie Claire, Strain, Burnfoot - 100 euro.
Naomh Padraig GAA: the numbers drawn in this week's lotto draw were 1:3:2:4:7:5 and 6. There was no jackpot winner however 100 euro runner-up prize went to Eamon Bradley, Caravan Park, Quigleys Point. Next week's jackpot will be 950 euro. There were impressive wins for both the senior and reserves against Lifford. Last weekend, however, the ladies were defeated by Robert Emmett's. This weekend, the seniors host Newtown at Ture.
