Thieves target Derry rail line

Metal thieves have stolen a number of items being used to upgrade Derry’s rail line.

Sixty steel plates and and thirty faceta hooks along with a trolley were stolen from the site in the Waterside on Saturday afternoon.

“Sometime between 2pm and 2.25pm, a trolley of steel plates were stolen from the railway line which is currently under repair,” a police spokeswoman says.

Police are keen to speak to the driver of a white van with a southern registration that was seen in the area at the time.

Police say the stolen items are very distinctive and are appealing to anyone who knows of anyone selling these items in suspicious circumstances to contact Police at Strand Road station on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
