‘This is my livelihood’

A Dungiven businessman is offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of two tractors worth £60,000 stolen from his yard.

Howard Fulton, a tractor dealer for 12 years, suffered a blow when thieves broke into his yard off the Dernaflaw Road late on Friday, January 11. They cut through his fence, drove the two tractors into a neighbouring field and ‘dozed’ them through a hedge into a picnic area where Mr. Fulton believes they were loaded onto a lorry and driven away.

A neighbour alerted Mr. Fulton to the costly theft.

“I got a phone call at about 6.30am from a neighbour who saw the tracks in the frost,” he said.

Mr. Fulton lives on the premises and believes the thieves must have staked out his business before the theft.

With a £5,000 reward on offer, the Dungiven businessman is hopeful the tractors will
be found.

“I’m still hopeful they’re in hiding somewhere,” he said. “It was definitely an organised job, and I would just put out an appeal for any help. If anyone does know anything I’d ask them to do the right thing. Things are difficult enough without this happening.”

Mr. Fulton said he would be reviewing security which “will be another expense”.

“This is my livelihood,” he said, urging anyone with information to contact him at H. Fulton Tractors on 028 777 41704. “I depend on it.”

Police urge anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“Those of you with such vehicles understand the value and the necessity for them and we would encourage you all to safeguard your property by locking up yards, gates, etc to deter theft,” added a PSNI spokesperson.

The first tractor is a blue New Holland TSA100 2004/2005 model and the second is a green/yellow John Deere 6830 2008 model.

Anyone with information should contact local police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
