Top Unite job for Liam

A Derry trade unionist has been appointed to one of Ireland’s most senior union positions.
Liam Gallagher was this week appointed the new chair of trade union Unite’s all-Ireland executive council.
Mr Gallagher, the Unite chairman in Derry, says he is honoured by his appointment to the senior national role.
“It is both an honour and a privilege to have been appointed to this position,” he told the ‘Journal’.
“I am aware of the many challenges that lie ahead in my three years as chair but I aim to do my best to represent all Unite members and to especially promote employment opportunities here in the north west.”
Mr Gallagher also revealed that Unite - Ireland’s second largest trade union - will hold their conference in Derry next year.
The Derry trade unionist holds a number of prominent positions in the city, in)cluding secretary of the Derry Trades Council and local Unite chairman.
