Tourists threatened on City Walls
An attempted robbery of tourists by knife-wielding thugs on Derry's Walls has sparked outrage in the city.
A married couple in their 50s, who were visiting the city from the Isle of Man, were approached by two teenage boys armed with a pen knife near Magazine Gate at around 7.30pm on Monday.
One of the boys threatened the man and demanded that he hand over a digital camera.
However, the man refused to do so and the boys made off empty-handed.
Local politicians were outraged by the latest attack on tourists in the city.
Sinn Fein Councillor Maeve McLaughlin said the culprits must be "brought to justice" and urged anyone who could identify them to speak to the police.
"The people who carry out attacks such as this are enemies of the entire community they must not be allowed to terrorise people going about their daily lives or people," she said.
Colr McLaughlin added that the rise in knife crime in the city was "unacceptable". "We must do all in our power to get knives of our streets," she said.

SDLP Councillor Mark H Durkan said: "It is imperative that all that can be done to tackle this growing knife-culture is being done."
He added: "The importance of tourism to Derry cannot be overstated and we can ill afford to have people leaving our city with tales that may deter other people coming here. It is vitally important that the walls are kept safe for people to walk on and the police must do what they can to ensure this happens."
