Tributes have been paid to a young Derry man who died suddenly during the week.

Gavin McCormick died at the family home he shared with his mother and father in Bishop Street on Wednesday night.

It’s understood the 33 years-old man had fallen ill earlier in the week.

Tributes were paid to Gavin, a former pupil of St Joseph’s Boys’ School on social media site, facebook. One friend said: “You’ll be missed Big Gav.”

Gavin was the youngest son of Bridie and Edgar McCormick of Bishop Street. He was also the younger brother of Darren and was predeceased by an older brother Ian.

Gavin was a devoted uncle to his niece and nephew Hannah and Jamie and a much loved nephew of his family in Derry, Malin Head and the USA.

His funeral will take place on Sunday morning with Requiem Mass at 10am in St Columba’s Church, Long Tower. Interment afterwards in the City Cemetery.
