Turn it down

NOISE FROM your neighbours can be a real pain in the neck. Barking dogs, loud music or TVs, shouting and banging doors are among the many disturbances residents have to suffer.

According to research, approximately half of all those suffering from an intolerably high level of noise suffer in silence as they don't know who to complain to and do not want to confront their neighbours. Many also believe that their problem may fall on deaf ears.

Make no mistake about it - noise, threats or abuse from your neighbours can be a constant nightmare for any homeowner. Indeed, it doesn't take much for the most minor neighbourhood dispute to lead to verbal abuse, criminal damage or even assault.

What is a noise to one person may be pleasurable to another. But evidence suggests that excessive noise can reduce the quality of life and, in some extreme cases, even destroy it entirely. Loud and unwanted noise can cause misery to people and we must all learn to consider the impact our noise has on others.
