Community leaders in Limavady are appealing to the man behind a weekend sex attack in the town centre to hand himself into police as the PSNI examine CCTV footage in the area in a bid to identify him.

The woman in her 20s was assaulted in an alleyway off Catherine Street around 2am on Sunday. Detectives from PSNI’s Rape Crime Unit say the male is described in his early 20s or younger, approximately 5’9” or 5’10” tall, with short brown, spiky hair. He wore a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, narrow legged cream chinos and had a rubber charity band on his right arm. The town’s top cop, Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson says officers and the Rape Crime Unit are working hard to identify the male. He urged anyone out in Limavady on Saturday night and who may have information useful to the investigation to contact detectives or their local neighbourhood officer.

Brenda Chivers of the Limavady Policing and Community Safety Partnership said the attack sent shockwaves through the town and appealed to the male to hand himself in.

“It’s the only way to resolve this. It will also help the girl,” she said.
