Two men have been arrested in Derry today as part of an investigation into a dissident republican Easter commemoration in the City Cemetery last year, police have confirmed.

The arrests followed a number of house searches in the Creggan area of the city this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said the arrests were made in connection with an investigation into a commemoration in the City Cemetery on Easter Monday last year at which a masked member of the Real IRA read out a statement threatening police officers.

The spokesperson told the ‘Derry Journal’: “Police carried out a number of searches in the city today as part of an ongoing investigation into terrorism offences at the Easter commemoration at the City Cemetery on April 9th, 2012. Two men have been arrested and are currently being questioned at Antrim Serious Crime Suite.”
