Warning after spike in creeper burglaries

Police are warning householders in Derry after a spate of creeper burglaries in the city.

A PSNI spokeswoman says three creeper style burglaries occurred in the city over the weekend while a further burglary happened last Wednesday..

“Sometime between 11.30pm on Sunday 23rd September and 4am on Monday 24th September a house at Caradale Park, Springtown was entered at the rear. A handbag and a set of car keys were stolen from the house and a silver coloured VW Passat parked outside, was also stolen. Police are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle, registration OUI 5358, to contact them immediately.

“A house at Mount Vernon was also entered sometime between 2.30am and 6am on Monday 24th September and a handbag, sum of cash and bank cards were stolen.

“A house at Sandale Park was also entered at around 2am and a Acer laptop, XBox, wallets and purse were stolen.”

Last Wednesday a house in Collon Lane was targeted in a creeper burglary.

“On Wednesday 19th September a house was entered at around 11.30pm. A handbag, a quantity of prescription tablets, cash, purses and ipods were stolen,” the spokeswoman says.

She says Police would like to remind homeowners to follow basic crime prevention advice to reduce homes being targeted by criminals.

“Police are urging local residents to lock front and back doors and close your windows at night.

“Always lock doors to your home and vehicles. Lock it up!

“Police are also urging people to report suspicious activity to Police as this could help prevent a crime from taking place.

“Further practical crime prevention advice is always available from your local Crime Prevention Officer on 0845 600 8000.”

Anyone with information about any of the burglaries is asked to contact Police on 0845 600 8000
