WiFi first for Derry's Airporter
Derry company Airporter have become the first coach company in the North to offer free WiFi across their entire plush new fleet, helping local business people make the most of their travel time to and from the Belfast airports.
Launching the new service, Airporter director Niall McKeever said: "It's a very exciting time for our company. We have just replaced the fleet this year and having internet connectivity on our entire fleet introduces a technology platform on which we can build new and innovative services that not only benefit our passengers but also improve the way our fleet operates.
'We are always looking for new ways to improve our service and Internet access was a natural choice for us, so that passengers can make the most of their travel time. For people who travel for work and business this new service could add three or four hours back into their working week."
Karen Magill, Chief Executive of the Federation of Passenger Transport, said: " Airporter are continually striving to lead the way in public transport in Northern Ireland. It was no surprise that they won the FPT NI Innovation award earlier this year. They are a company constantly on the move, always improving themselves for the benefit of their customers.
"Airporter passengers expect a first class service and in typical Airporter style, they are now going that extra mile with free WiFi."
Airporter has partnered with Fleet Connect Ltd, who has fitted the Airporter Fleet with 3G broadband-enabled MoovBox M series wireless technology. The MoovBox M service was judged the 'Best Wi-Fi Product' in the Wireless Broadband innovation awards 2008. The latest in vehicle technology will allow Airporter to track the location of each vehicle in its fleet in real-time leading to improved service for its customers along with high speed wireless internet access for all passengers.
"We are delighted to have been selected by Airporter for this landmark rollout of in vehicle internet" said Patrick Cotter, Director of Fleet Connect Ltd.
"Such a major commitment to this technology from one of Northern Ireland's most prestigious transport companies is clear evidence that public transport is the new major market for Wi-Fi hot spots and the services that in bus internet connectivity enables".
Established in 1996, Airporter connects both Belfast airports to Derry and the North West with 11 services daily.
