Will Keith Harkin beat John Hume?

A singer and songwriter is out in the lead in a competition to find Derry’s cultural icon.

Keith Harkin currently has almost 5,000 votes while John Hume, recently recognised as the greatest Irish person has just over 400.

And local people have until tomorrow to make sure their favourite wins.

By voting, you have a chance to win a fantastic Golden Ticket giving you exclusive access to a selection of City of Culture 2013 events.

Nominees currently in the running include Keith, a lead singer and a songwriter for the vocal group phenomenon Celtic Thunder, Damian McGinty, actor and singer, John Hume, highly regarded as one of the most important figures in the recent political history of Ireland, actress singer and producer Roma Downey and Jimmy and Billy ‘Spider’ Kelly, a Father and Son boxing team from Derry~ Voting closes on Monday January 7.

Voting closes on January 7 and the winning voter will secure a golden ticket (which admits two people) to all the main events on the programme. The winner will be announced on January 9.
