Parts of county Derry are hit worst by the freezing weather today with snow drifts reported in areas in and around Limavady.

In scenes reminiscent of the cold snap of 2010, snow ploughs have been used used to clear areas along the Glenshane Pass, many of which were completely impassable with up to five inches of snow.

The Drumsurn Road was also closed to traffic due to a fallen tree after gale force winds experienced by the entire North West.

Areas in and around the city experienced light snowfall and freezing cold temperature. However there was no disruption to traffic.

Northern Ireland electricity are working to restore power to 30,000 homes as strong winds continue. While counties Down and Armagh were worst hit by the outages, NIE has advised customers across the North that they may experience may notice brief dips in their lights on a regular basis but not to report these unless they have completely lost their electricity supply.

The cold spell is set to last into the middle of next week with fresh or strong easterly winds and showers of sleet and snow. However these will be worst in counties Down and Armagh.
