The development of the North West Science Park (NWSP) at Fort George will create unique opportunities for Derry entrepreneurs, a local councillor has said.
Sinn Féin councillor Mickey Cooper made the comment after claims the science park would be in danger of becoming irrelevant without the expansion of the university at Magee.
Colr. Cooper said there will be other opportunities at the science park, currently under construction at Fort George. “The NWSP will be open for business in the second half of this year; even if the executive handed unlimited funding to Magee tomorrow for STEM MasN places it would take at least another three years to see these students emerge as graduates. There are plenty of alternative options for the NWSP to develop in the interim. Half of the space will be for research and development. While UU involvement in the research and development section will be vital there will also be R&D companies who have no links to the university.”
