The Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre, Limavady welcomes back August Children’s Month, jam-packed with a magical line-up of enchanting family theatre, exhibition, workshops, films and more!
The award-winning Snail Tales present the imaginative theatre event A Pinch of Pickle, A Whisk of Wise on Thursday 7 August at 2pm. Quantum Theatre present the wonderful Lewis Carroll’s classic Alice Through the Looking Glass on Saturday 23 August at 2pm. Family ticket and group discounts are available for both shows.
Family films screened every Friday afternoon in August include Walking with Dinosaurs, Lego – The Movie, Moshi Monsters and classic E.T The Extra-Terrestrial. Pre-screening art workshops for families are available before selected screenings.
The Centre’s galleries will be hosting two superb exhibitions designed to capture children’s imaginations. Creature Comforts by artist Lauren Scott presents a series of quirky and humorous animal textile sculptures, whilst Shona Macdonald presents a series of enchanting illustrations conveying magical stories in her exhibition Juniper. Both exhibitions are free admission and will have a lot of interactive workshop materials and colourful seating for families.
Brilliant creative workshops to keep the little ones busy for a few hours include Walking with Dinosaurs on Friday 8 August, where ages 8+ years can make their own dinosaur models and badges and Make a Moshi Monster on Friday 22 August. Artist Claire Heaney-McKee and children’s book illustrator Trisha Deery host The Word Bird workshop for 5-11 years combining storytelling, creative writing and drawing to help their imaginations take flight! Children aged 10+ years can also sign up to make their own Beastly Birds on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 August with exhibiting artist Lauren Scott. On Saturday 23 August, children attending Alice in Wonderland theatre performance can enjoy a free make and play session from 12noon-2pm.
