Magilligan man captures '˜epic' lightning storm

This is the dramatic footage of the 'epic' lightning storm that Magilligan amateur photographer, Owen Anderson captured last night.

Owen was at home when the storm struck. He says it’s been at least a decade since he witnessed such electrifying scenes light up the sky.

“I was at home babysitting and I was just in the right place. It went from Omagh, around the North Coast and over to Scotland. There was very little noise with it as it was mainly out to sea. You could see the fork lightning so clearly and it was frequent.

“This was a supercell thunderstorm, a rarity in Ireland, and it lasted a good hour. It was pretty intense. I believe it’s been about 10 years since we had one.”

“It was pretty awesome,” added Owen. “It was epic.”
