A young man has been killed after a car crashed into a bollard in Burnfoot last night, gardai have confirmed.

Gardai in Buncrana were today investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal, single vehicle collision, which occurred on the R238 Buncrana to Burnfoot Road at around 11.30pm at Carnashannagh.

A garda spokesman said: “The car collided with a bollard. There were three males in the car at the time of the collision.

“One passenger (21 years) was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene, his body was removed to the morgue at Letterkenny General hospital.

“The driver (18 years) and other passenger( 21 years) were injured and taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for treatment. Their injuries are described as non life threatening.”

The road will remain closed until at least lunchtime today in order to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Diversions are in place.
