Manus selling Celtic history to raise funds for Down's and Proud

Derry Celtic supporter Manus Martin is selling copies of a new history of the club to raise money for a charity inspired by another Hoops fanatic up the country.

Manus, who was lucky enough to see the ‘Lisbon Lions’ in the flesh fifty years ago, has 20 copies of Liam Kelly’s ‘Our Stories and Our Songs: The Celtic Support’.

All proceeds will go to Down’s and Proud, the Down’s syndrome charity inspired by Lurgan’s number one Bhoy, Jay Beattie.

Manus said the book’s a great read and took him back.

“My sister was living in Glasgow in the early 1960s so I started supporting them then. I was lucky because I saw the ‘Lisbon Lions’ playing and all that there.

“This book goes into all the links between Donegal and Glasgow. It talks about how years ago the supporters would have gone to the matches in a horse and cart. It’s very interesting, you know.”

Author Liam Kelly, who sent Manus a first shipment of 20 copies, said: “‘Our Stories and Our Songs’ is, ultimately, both an historical and contemporary record of a people, their values, hopes and dreams.

“With several anecdotes, lots of history and a bundle of laughs - you will be sure to capture that warm glow that has accompanied supporting Celtic for so many people in the last 130 years.
