The Big Tickle Comedy festival kicks off this Thursday, September 1, and the first place to start firing off the punch lines is Masons Comedy Club, finest purveyors of quality chuckles to the Derry region for nearly three years.

In many ways the venue will be acting as a decorative fringe to the fest, where the hottest and coolest new comics come to make you giggle without breaking the bank.

Speaking ahead of the events, Masons promoter Eavan King said: “Masons Comedy Club is delighted to support The Big Tickle this year by bringing you a programme of fresh new comedy faces, rising and established stars on the Irish scene over the next ten days.

“We’re particularly pleased to be able to showcase such fantastic new talent at our Fresh Comedy Night. Comedy lovers can see a top quality range of local comedians as well as those from further afield compete for a special prize package of support slots at some of Northern Ireland’s top comedy clubs, as well as £100 cash. We thank Harp Ice our sponsors for supporting comedy year round here at Masons”.

Gagging Order – Fresh Comedy Night is dedicated to the hottest new names in the Northern Irish scene and has proved a highly successful breeding ground for new talent with many previous acts going on to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe, TV success and internet infamy.* (*Not in a Paris Hilton way).

It’s a night where the jokes aren’t cheap, just the admission price.

Fresh faces taking to the stage on the night include Derry’s own Adam Laughlin, Ray McCrossan, Ciaran Flanagan and Rory McSwiggan as well as visiting comics Paddy McDonnell, Morgan Hearst and Martin Linton.

Events are held together by MC Micky Bartlett, who is now a regular MC at Belfast’s world famous Empire Comedy Club as well as featuring on BBC Northern Ireland’s LOL and Find Me the Funny .

The night kicks off at 9pm at Masons Bar on Magazine Street. Admission is but a mere £3 and comes complete with drink promotions and musical support from The Thumping Jelly Fish. Get your laughing gear around that!
