Well-known Greysteel lady, Jane O’Hara got the surprise of her life when Limavady Mayor Sean McGlinchey called to wish her a happy 90th birthday on Friday, writes Sheena Jackson.

“It was a real surprise for me. I wasn’t prepared for it at all,” said a youthful-looking Jane.

“He wished me ‘happy birthday’ and gave me a big bunch of flowers and a card and said, ‘That’s all for you’. It was lovely. He was a very nice man.”

Fresh faced and looking nowhere near her 90 years, the mum-of-five credits her longevity to a healthy diet of “plain food, nothing special”, socialising with friends at the Friday luncheon club, run by Greysteel Community Association, and playing a book at bingo.

Mayor McGlinchey said he was “honoured” at being able to extend birthday greetings to Jane, who he said was “a pleasure to meet”, adding Jane was “a lady” who looked much younger than 90.
