Keep the family festivities going all weekend over the Hallowe’en mid-term break, with a special Family Fun Day taking place in Derry’s beautiful Guildhall on Sunday, November 2.

The city’s Mayor, Councillor Brenda Stevenson, is welcoming local children to the stunning Main Hall, which will be transformed into a fabulous play area complete with bouncy castle, balloon models and face painting.

The free event is being held in aid of the Mayor of Derry’s two chosen charities, Something Special and Circle of Support for Autism Families.

Speaking ahead of the Fun Day Cllr Stevenson said: “I’m really looking forward to meeting with some of our energetic younger citizens for what will be a fun-packed day at the Guildhall. It will be a great opportunity for local children to explore the newly restored building and find out a bit more about its colourful history and the city from our fantastic staff.

“While the event is free, I’m also hoping to raise some much needed funds on the day for my two chosen charities. I would invite all parents to bring their children along for the afternoon, join in the free activities, and support two extremely worthy local causes.”

Cllr Stevenson will be joined on the day by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse who will be handing out goodies and the family fun will continue all afternoon from 12.30pm until 4.30pm.

Children can enjoy a magical carousel ride at the entrance to the Guildhall before enjoying the indoor bouncy castle, face painting and balloon modelling.

As well as all the fun activities, families can enjoy the results of the extensive restoration work at the Guildhall, which has gone towards creating a new multifaceted tourism experience. The Guildhall now boasts an interactive Tourist Information Point, a café area, and a new dedicated exhibition exploring how the Plantation has shaped our history

The event is free and is the first in a series of opportunities for families to see more of the city’s museums and public buildings throughout November.

The Tower Museum will host a series of free open days every Sunday taking place on November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th. The Museum currently houses some fascinating exhibitions charting the history of the city and the region, including the Story of Derry and Armada exhibitions, and a special Maritime Exhibition, and opening hours are from 10am – 5.30pm.
