Dromore-based construction firm, McAleer and Teague Ltd. will build the new Brandywell, the Head of the Health and Community Directorate at Derry City and Strabane District Council revealed on Thursday.
Karen McFarland told members of the Council Health and Community Committee that “pre-start” meetings will now take place and that all of the relevant stakeholders and users of the grounds, as well as local residents, will be fully consulted with.
Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell welcomed progress on a project he noted has been in “the pipeline for some time.”
“It’s vital consultations take place with residents as there’s going to be substantial development over a period of time,” said Mr Campbell.
McAleer and Teague have a track record of delivering major building projects across the North.
It built the Healthy Living Centre in Creggan for Derry City Council and a state-of-the-art control tower at Healy Park for the Tyrone County Board, among many other major projects.
