Local Sinn Fein councillor, Elisha McCallion, has called on those behind the shooting of a young man in Galliagh last night to stop immediately.

Colr. McCallion told the Derry Journal she had spoken to residents in the area and they expressed shock at what happened.

“The people of the area do not want these actions taking place on our streets and those behind them need to stop.”

Police in Derry are appealing for information following the shooting which occurred in the Bracken Park area on Thursday evening.

At approximately 8.30pm a man in his 20s was shot in the right leg by two other males. He was taken to hospital for treatment to his injury which is not believed to be life threatening.
