The family of Mickey McGuinness and the organisers of a concert organised in his memory have thanked the many people who came along on the night to support the event.

The Derry man passed away last year after a short illness.

Mickey McGuinness was widely regarded across Derry and had edited, written and contributed to many local publications, including ‘Creggan: More than a History’ and ‘City of Music: Derry’s Music Heritage’.

A gifted story-teller, he had also penned countless historical articles for the media and was, until his death, chairman of Guildhall Press publishers.

A successful footballer with Sligo and Derry Celtic, Mr McGuinness was also an accomplished singer from a musical family.

Organisers Paraig O’Brien and Pat McNabb wish to thank everyone who attended the memorial concert in aid of Foyle Hospice where £4389 was raised. Also thanks to all performers who kindly donated their time and all those who helped out behind the scenes.
