Police are hunting for two men who forced their way into a pensioner’s home in Greysteel on Tuesday.
Detective Inspector McQuade said: “It’s understood two men aged in their twenties forced entry to a house on Clooney Road by kicking in the front door at around 12.30pm.
“The pair made off when they encountered the female occupant. It’s not believed anything was taken.
“The Clooney Road is a very busy road and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area this morning. We are particularly keen to speak to the occupants of a large grey car we believe was parked nearby at the time.
“Detectives can be contacted at Limavady CID on the non-emergency number 101.”
Sinn Fein Councillor Dermot McNicholl said people in the village were shocked by the incident.
“This is an alarming incident, something that happened in a busy area, and which really is an attack on the community,” said Colr. Nicholl. “I would appeal for anyone with information to contact the police. As I say, this is a disturbing incident and I would urge people in the community to check on their elderly and vulnerable neighbours, and to remain vigilant for any suspicious behaviour.”
