The family of a missing Newbuildings man have discovered his body near Gransha while searching for him on Friday,
Police confirmed that the family of 59 year-old William Mowbray, who had been missing since Tuesday December 31, have found the body of a man in the Gransha area.
The family have initially identified the body as that of Mr Mowbray. The death is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.
The family of Mr Mowbray would like to thank all agencies who were involved in the search and also to members of the public and the local community for all of their support and help.
Police investigating the disappearance of Mr Mowbray offered their condolences to the family.
Mr. Mowbray was described as being “vulnerable” and all day Thursday, friends and family attempted to find him by searching the banks of the River Foyle.
William, from Primity Terrace, was last seen at a hospital in the Derry area at approximately 3.10pm on New Year’s Eve.
The Newbuildings Community Centre, which helped to co-ordinate the search for Mr. Mowbray with the PSNI confirmed on social media website, Facebook, that the search for the local man had come to an end.
“William (Billy) Mowbray has been located, sadly when he was found he had passed away. The family wish to thank everyone for their help and support. No further details will be disclosed at this time.”
