A local councillor has said a mortgage advice scheme set up by the social development minister will not prevent people losing their homes.
Sinn Féin councillor Tony Hassan made the comment as Nelson McCausland announced details of the new service which aims to provide advice to struggling homeowners.
“This will not stop people having their homes repossessed. What we need to see is a mortgage relief scheme introduced right away for people in danger of losing their homes given the current economic climate.
“This scheme would bring much needed financial relief to those who are facing immense pressure to meet the demands of there mortgages,” he said.
