City & Guilds, the global vocational education organisation, runs its annual Medals for Excellence programme to recognise outstanding achievement and high standards by students and lecturers across 81 countries throughout the world.
Kevin McLaughin is an IT software trainer at the FÁS Training Centre in Letterkenny. He’s been recognised for his dedication and in helping more than 150 people secure jobs in IT over the past number of years.
One such student, Tim Fletcher was also presented with a Medal For Excellence at the ceremony.
Tim was formerly self-employed as a Chef/Manager. He sought out a career in the IT industry when work was no longer available due to the recession. He completed the City & Guilds IT Software Developer course and now works for Pramerica.
He was nominated for his innovation and originality, as well as achieving full marks in his assessment.
Tim admits that he came close to leaving the course a couple of times, as it was a tough adjustment from the world of work back into training. Encouraged by Kevin, he made it through with exceptional results and it makes his achievements even more remarkable.
“I want to thank my trainer Kevin for nominating me. He was the one who lifted my spirits and kept me hanging in there when I felt like I was going to have to call it a day.
“It is a great feeling to get this award today.”
