It's hoped that a Music Festival which is due to be held in Derry in September this year would be similar to 'Radio One's Big Weekend' which took the city by storm last year.

The Derry Journal understands that contracts to bring a major two day music festival to the city in September have been signed off.

One of the names rumoured to be involved in the contract negotiations is MTV.

When contacted by The Derry Journal yesterday a spokesperson for Derry City Council said:

“Negotiations are continuing with music promoters for the purposes of securing music acts for organizing a music festival in the city as part of Music City 2014.”

The Derry Journal broke the story last month and according to sources some contracts have been signed off whilst it is believed that other such negotiations are at a very advanced stage.

Sinn Fein councillor and chair of development committee Elisha McCallion, urged for music fans to let the organisers finalise the details before anything is announced.

“Whilst people are very eager for information I would just appeal to them to give the people working very hard behind the scenes the space to ensure we get the successful outcome we are all looking forward to.”
