McNarry quits UUP's Assembly group
David McNarry has resigned from the UUP's Assembly group following a fall-out with the party leader over unionist co-operation.
The Strangford MLA left after he was removed from the post of deputy chair of Stormont's education committee by Tom Elliott.
It follows talks between Mr McNarry and the DUP leadership.
This had been kept secret from the UUP Assembly team and a special meeting was held about the matter on Tuesday.
Mr McNarry has been a senior member of the party at the Assembly for many years and was a former chief whip.
He is known for his tough questioning of ministers and outspoken views.
An Ulster Unionist spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that David McNarry was today removed by the party leader as vice-chair of the education committee.
"We are aware of the media reports that David has resigned from the Ulster Unionist Assembly group, but at this stage neither the leader nor the party have received formal notification from David of his resignation."
