From April 1 2015, Derry City and Strabane District Councill will assume responsibility for off street car parking in the new council area as a result of local government reform.

Members of the public wishing to use the off street car parking facilities will see little change to the service provided. All forms of payment, including the current ability to pay via phone or through the Parkmobile app, will continue to operate as normal in conjunction with NSL, who will be servicing and enforcing the car parks. Season tickets can also still be purchased on 028 9334 4007.

The Department for Regional Development (DRD) introduced a pilot scheme of £1 for 5 hours car parking which is due to end on Tuesday March 31 2015, after which it becomes council’s responsibility to set tariffs.

Legally on April 1, tariffs will revert back to their respective per hour costs put in place prior to the launch of the pilot scheme.

Derry City and Strabane District Council will revert back to the standard tariffs charged by the car parks before the launch of the pilot scheme. However, it is proposed that a wider consultation in the new council area will be performed in order to determine the best process and pricing structure for the stakeholders in Derry City and Strabane District before making any further amendments to costs of this service.

There is currently a notification on all off street parking locations with related information.
