Foster care provider, Foster Care Associates (FCA), opens a new office in Derry today.

The new offices at Pennyburn Industrial Estate will be officially opened by Derry foster carers Liam and Marianne Gallagher who have been fostering with FCA for 10 years.

The couple will receive recognition for their dedication to fostering from the FCA Northern Ireland team and Derry Mayor Brenda Stevenson who will also be attending the opening.

The office opening follows hot on the heels of the launch of FCA Northern Ireland’s Manifesto for Excellence in Foster Care at Stormont last month.

The current Belfast team of social workers, therapists, education officers and resource based staff will assist the Derry office in supporting the existing network of foster carers in Derry and the North West.

The team also hope to proactively grow the numbers of carers in the region to help meet the shortfall of 200 carers currently needed in Northern Ireland.

Feargal O’Keefe, regional manager for FCA Northern Ireland, said: “Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. We have some amazing people caring for children and young people in Derry and the North West and this new regional office will ensure that those local to the area benefit from the support we have to offer whenever they need it.”

“There is also an urgent need for more foster carers in Derry. We are actively looking for responsible, nurturing adults who have a spare room and can give children and young people in need of a foster home the support they need to thrive and grow.”

Today’s official opening is a drop-in event, from 12pm-2pm, and open to anyone who wants to find out first-hand how to get involved and help dozens of children and young people in Derry in need of a foster family.
