Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) has returned to Derry’s Creggan Estate to carry out emergency repairs just days after its workers were threatened and one of its vans set on fire.

The move has been welcomed by former Mayor and local Sinn Fein councillor Kevin Campbell.

He said: “I have been talking with the management at NIE since the terrible incidents earlier in the week when workers were threatened and a van burned at Linsfort Drive.

“I am glad to say that, following those discussions, a team of workers are in here today (Saturday) carrying out repairs and restoring power to homes in Rinmore Drive.

“I would like to commend staff at NIE for the work they are carrying out which is welcomed by the people of Creggan.”
