Jazz legend Nigel Mooney performs at the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre/ Ionad Ealaíon agus Cultúir Ghleann na Ró on Friday June 13 at 8pm as part of this year’s amazing Limavady Jazz and Blues Festival.

Nigel is widely regarded as Ireland’s leading jazz singer and guitarist. His 2013 album The Bohemian Mooney was named the Irish Times International Jazz Album of the Year as well as featuring as RTE Radio’s Record of the Week on mainstream programmes, a rare honour for a jazz album.

A charismatic figure on the Dublin jazz and blues scene in the 1980’s, Nigel’s Gripewater Blues Band opened for the likes of BB King at the National Stadium, Bo Diddley and Dr John and spearheaded the blues movement in Ireland. After the release of his critically acclaimed second album The Bohemian Mooney, Nigel has climbed the international jazz scene, performing at festivals across the world.

Tonight, he performs alongside his revered band which includes Johnny Taylor on piano, Dan Bodwell on bass and Dominic Mullan on drums.

Desima Connolly, Arts & Cultural Services Officer, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership working with the fantastic Limavady Jazz and Blues Committee and to contribute the amazing Nigel Mooney Quartet to this year’s festival line-up.”

The centre’s Danny Boy Auditorium will assume an intimate jazz club vibe with candlelight and cabaret style seating. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own refreshments. The centre is also hosting this Year’s festival launch on the evening of Thursday 12 June with a superb line-up of quality artists including Ted Ponsonby, Errol Walsh, Clara Rose and the Hot Tamales from 7pm.

Tickets for both events are available from the Arts Centre’s Box Office on 028 7776 0650 or visit for more information.
