Night of glitz and glamour to honour Derry's Alexandra

A Derry teenager battling cancer for the third time has been honoured at a glitzy red carpet event for her charity work.

The red carpet was rolled out at the surprise bash for 15-year-old Alexandra Johnston at the Gasyard Centre on Friday night.

Alexandra is currently receiving treatment for Ewing’s sarcoma, an extremely rare form a cancer, and has also been involved in charity work for Paul’s Campaign to raise awareness for Sarcoma and Bandanas for the Brave.

A star-studded line up joined Alexandra, her family, friends at the Gasyard Centre on Friday night to celebrate her achievements at ‘An Evening With Alexandra’.

Alexandra was previously part of a delegation who went to Stormont to help raise awareness of sarcoma among not just politicians but also medical professionals .

Last year , a video showing dozens of bikers from the Brother of the This Wheel arriving on her doorstep to make her an honorary member went viral. The bikers were in Derry for the Roaring Meg Festival and took Alexandra out for a spin.

She has also previously met with the band, One Direction.

The host on Friday night was Father Chris Ferguson, who interviewed Alexandra on stage. Performers on the night included Michael Doherty, X Factor stars Conor McGinty and Brad McVicker, The Voice star Johnny Kohlmeyer, and Derry gospel music band, I Am.
