It’s a mystery almost worthy of Sherlock Gnomes.

The mysterious appearance of this rag-tag bunch of garden ornaments - including four gnomes, three dogs, three cats, a rabbit and Kermit the frog - left Rosemount woman Sara Jane Murray mystified when she woke on Wednesday morning to find them neatly arranged in her front garden.

“I have no idea how they got there” she says.

“It was a bit of a surprise at first but then I just thought how funny it was.

“I’m sure its not too funny if its one of your gnomes that has gone missing though.”

Now, the ‘Journal’ is hoping the rightful owners will come forward or that the Derry public will help rehome the gnomes.

“Everyone knows gnome is where the heart is,” a spokesman for the ‘Rehome the Gnome’ campaign said yesterday.

“And that’s why we hope that if someone in the Rosemount area is missing their favourite garden ornament they’ll rescue them from their current gnomeman’s land.

“There’s nineteen ornaments in total, from toadstool to rabbit, to dog and to frog, so to call them all gnomes is a bit of a misgnomer - gnome pun intended.”

If you want to reclaim your gnome, dog, cat, teddy bear, rabbit, wooden man with a flower pot hat, frog, toad stool or gnome, ring the ‘Journal’ on 71272200 or call down to the Buncrana Road office.
