Benone Beach situated right at the heart of the Binevenagh Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is now home to Long Line Surf School.

The surf school which is located on the scenic boardwalks beside Benone Tourist Complex was officially launched on Tuesday April 17 and is set to become a key attraction for tourists and locals alike.

Long Line Surf School is the initiative of young entrepreneur Dan Lavery who caught his first wave on Benone Beach as a child before moving to Cornwall to learn the skills of the surfing industry.

“I’m really excited about my return to Benone. I’ve surfed all over the world but my most special memory is riding a wave on Benone Beach with Mussenden Temple and the mighty Binevenagh Mountain as a backdrop. I want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to have that feeling” enthused Dan.

The surf school’s mission is ‘encouraging lifestyle not just a sport’ so rather than just concentrating on surfing as an activity, Long Line Surf lessons also incorporate useful information on the local environment, culture and beach safety.

“Dan and his team at Long Line Surf School are a great addition to the activity tourism sector in Northern Ireland and in particular to the Binevenagh AONB. The lessons will be perfect for families and groups of mates looking to enjoy the area through an activity experience” commented Chris Scott, Activity Tourism Manager, OutdoorNI.com.

Lessons are available for all levels of abilities from beginners to one to one coaching for those seeking to perfect their technique. Free equipment hire including surf boards and top of the range wet suits is available with all lessons. All the instructors are Academy of Surf Instructor (ASI) qualified.

Dan hasn’t left anyone out either as he has created surf lessons and custom surfboards to cater for people with a wide range of disabilities and is now working very closely with Disability Sports Northern Ireland.
