Chief Superintendent Stephen Martin said he was proud to have overseen policing in Derry during such an “exciting period” in the city.
He praised his staff and those who worked in partnership with his officers to ensure the major events in the city over the past few years were enjoyable for all involved.
He said it was a “very challenging time” but one which he thoroughly enjoyed being a part of as the city underwent something of a transformation. “We’ve had huge events from the Clipper Round the World Race, the visit of former US President Bill Clinton, the City of Culture, the Fleadh, the Battle of the Atlantic commemorations and the various parades. The success of those events was down to huge team efforts not just by our police officers but by our partners. I have been very lucky to have overseen the policing operations for some of the city’s most memorable and historic events. This has been a year of transformation for Derry and the renewed hope and spirit that exists within its people is overwhelming.
