The Riverwatch Aquarium and Visitor Centre at Prehen is hosting a public open day tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.
The open day is taking place to celebrate Fisheries Awareness Week and launch the installation of three new aquarium tanks. Admission is free.
The new aquariums were part funded by the NITB Tourism Development Scheme.
There will be a range of activities taking place from fly casting instruction, fly tying workshops, marine touch tanks and arts and crafts.
Gillian Simpson, from the Loughs Agency, says: “Thanks to the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, we now have eight marine and freshwater aquarium tanks in the Riverwatch Centre stocked with a variety of local species.
“They provide a window to a wonderful underwater world and I would encourage everyone to come along and see them for themselves.” The aims of Fisheries Awareness Week are:
* To encourage adults and children alike who may never have fished before to take up a new hobby
* To work with angling clubs and organisations to promote all types of angling
* To promote the role the fisheries service has in protection and conserving fisheries resources.
