2014 has been a winning year for the City Hotel as it has been successful in securing a number of prestigious industry awards.
The hotel picked up the “Energy Efficiency Award” on Wednesday 3rd September in Belfast at the “Sustainable Ireland 2014 Awards” black tie gala evening. This award is presented to the organisation who has achieved high levels of cost reduction within their corporate energy levels through the implementation of energy saving policies and programmes.
The City Hotel impressed the judges with the measures the hotel has taken to reduce energy usage and its use of best practice in energy efficiency.
The hotel has increased staff training in energy efficiency and environmental awareness and has invested in energy saving dishwashers, cookers, light bulbs and showerheads.
The hotel now diverts all its waste from landfill and holds the Gold Award with the Green Business Tourism Scheme and Lets Recycle. As a result the hotel has reduced its CO2 emissions by 538 tonnes per year.
In May this year the hotel brought home two awards from the Northern Ireland Tourism Awards in Belfast which are a celebration of the very best in tourism and hospitality. The City Hotel Derry picked up a “Highly Commended” in the extremely competitive category of ‘Hotel of the Year’ amidst fierce competition. In addition the City Hotel once more gained industry recognition on the night by receiving a “Highly Commended” in the Innovation Award for “The Collection” on the 7th Floor.
In April this year the City Hotel won the “2013 International Hotel of the Year” category in Interstate Hotels & Resorts’ annual awards for its performance and leadership of its management team over the last year.Earlier in the year two members of staff, Chantelle McCallion and Laura Curran, were finalists in the Northern Ireland Hotel Federation “Receptionist Awards” with Chantelle achieving 3rd overall in “Receptionist of the Year” category. The reception team were also placed 3rd in the “Reception Team of the Year” category.
The array of awards acquired over 2013/2014 highlights that innovation, quality and excellence in service provision is at the core of the City Hotel’ss ethos and continues to be the recipe for success.
