Craic iontach

Have your say

Beidh a lán ranganna do dhaoine fásta ag críochnú i gceann cúpla seachtain: ansin beidh bearna ann agus is minic nach mbíonn foghlaimeoirí ábalta úsáid a bhaint as a gcuid Gaeilge go dtí tús an chéad téarma eile. Ar an drochuair, ní cuid de shaol an uile lae príomhtheanga na tíre seo.

Nuair atá tú ag foghlaim teanga, tá leanúnas de dhíth. Go ginearálta, foghlaimímid an dara teanga ar dhóigh shaorga- cúpla uair an chloig seachtain amháin agus ansin seachtain go dtí an chéad cheacht eile. An féidir na bearnaí a líonadh – bearna mhór an tsamhraidh go háirithe? An bealach is fearr, sin dul chun na Gaeltachta, ar ndóigh. Ach níl cuid mhór daoine in ann seo a dhéanamh na laethanta seo mar gheall ar an ghéarchéim eacnamaíochta.

Ach tá réiteach sultmhar ann i mbliana: tá deis ag grúpaí a bhfuil suim acu sa Ghaeilge úsáid a bhaint as an teanga ar bhealach éadrom. Tá i gceist ag Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, Doire an comórtas siamsaíochta Éamann ‘a Craic a thionscnamh san fhómhar. Tá an comórtas dírithe ar phobal aosach na Gaeilge. Cuirfidh grúpaí éagsúla cláir ilghnéitheacha siamsaíochta i nGaeilge, nach mairfidh níos mó ná 30 bomaite, i láthair lucht éisteachta agus moltóirí. Beidh ceithre mhír i ngach clár: mír drámaíochta (riachtanach) agus trí mhír eile, mar shampla, ceol uirlise, amhránaíocht, scéalaíocht, cleasa draíochta srl. Reáchtálfar an comórtas sa Chultúrlann gach Aoine ón 27ú Meán Fómhair. Reáchtálfar an babhta ceannais go luath i mí na Nollag. Tá duaiseanna le baint: buantrófaí agus £500, £300, agus £200. Thig leis na foirne an samhradh ar fad a chaitheamh ag cleachtadh! Great craic

Many adult classes will be finishing in a few weeks: then there will be a gap, and very often learners are not able to use their Irish until the start of the next term. Unfortunately the first language is not a part of everyday life in this country.

When you are learning a second language, you need continuity. Generally, we learn a second language in an artificial way - a couple of hours one week and then another week until the next lesson. Can we bridge the gaps- particularly the big summer gap? The best way is to go to the Gaeltacht, of course. But many people are not able to do this nowadays because of the economic crisis.

But there is a pleasant solution available this year: groups interested in Irish have a chance to use their language in a light hearted way. Cultúrlann Uí Chan áin, Derry is setting up the fun competition, Éamann a Craic in the autumn. It is a competition for the adult Irish language community. Different groups will put together varied entertainment programmes in Irish lasting no more than 30 minutes, in front of an audience and adjudicators. There will be four items in each programme: a drama item (compulsory) and three other items, for example a piece of instrumental music, singing, story telling, a magic show etc. The competition will be held in the Cultúrlann every Friday from 27 September. The final will be early in December. There are prizes to be won: a perpetual trophy and £500, £300, and £200. Teams can spend the summer rehearsing!
