Derry 2.0 - The Making of Puffins’ Rock

Dog Ears are one of Derry’s most exciting young companies, making gorgeous children’s media across print and screen of all sizes. Based on their upcoming “Puffins’ Rock” App and Book – this session will explore the practical collaboration between several different companies on the creation of the book and book app, plans for the future and next steps – followed by question and answer session.

Chaired by Dog Ears the session will include contributions from Cartoon Saloon, the team behind the Oscar nominated animated feature The Secret of Kells (Best Animated Feature Nominee: Academy Awards®) and producers of the animated children’s series Skunk Fu! which has sold globally to territories including the BBC, Super RTL, Kids WB and Cartoon Network in the US. Cartoon Saloon created the original concept of Puffins’ Rock and created all illustrations and animations for the book and the app.

Still, a multi disciplinary design business based in Derry. John designed and built the app having worked alongside Dog Ears right from the storyboard phase, helping develop the narrative and animation with interaction in mind, and coding up all our ideas once the artwork was complete.

Smalltown America, the independent record label and studio, who were responsible for the audio production of the app, including voice records, sound effects and creating a gorgeous theme tune. And we’ll also be welcoming the London-based children’s book designer who acted creative director of Puffins’ Rock, and who will talk about her role in the project.

Public sector experience includes extensive local and central government track record, BBC, NHS and several tourism and development authorities within the UK and the USA in particular. He is an experienced keynote speaker, author and evangelist for digital marketing, digital media and innovative platforms including web TV, mobile apps & media tools, publishing and corporate sector platforms. Matthew is now Managing Director of Firebrand Innovations Group having previously been Commercial Director in Sir Bob Geldof’s multimedia group – Ten Alps PLC.

The ITLG and Silicon Valley Gateway are organising a nationwide Pitch Camp tour and will be stopping in Derry on June 29.
