FÉILE MHAIGHE 2011

Níos mó agus níos fearr. Bíonn Féile Mhaighe ag dul ó neart go neart ó bunaíodh í aon bhliain is tríocha ó shin. Beidh sí ar siúl i mbliana ón Aoine, 29 Iúil, go dtí an Luan,1 Lúnasa. Chomh maith le himeachtaí an deireadh seachtaine, beidh imeachtaí eile ann roimh an Fhéile agus ina diaidh, mar shampla, an comórtas garraíodóireachta agus Tráth na gCeist na Scoileanna.Tá na sonraí ar fáil i mbróisiúr na Féile atá sna siopaí áitiúla anois.

Bainfidh dhá eagras áitiúla tairbhe as Feachtas an Mhéara i mbliana: Sciath-thithíocht Mhaighe agus Áit Súgartha Mhaighe, atá á tógáil faoi láthair. Tá an t-airgead de dhíth ar an dá chúis fhiúntacha seo mar gheall ar na cíorruithe. Beidh Marion Molloy ag teacht anuas ó eitleán le paraisiút Dé Domhnaigh, le hairgead a bhailiú do ‘Sciath- thithíocht’! Bheadh eagla ar a lán daoine eitilt, gan trácht ar léim ó eitleán! Beidh Donny McColgan ag eagrú bailiúchán speisialta don Áit Súgartha an deireadh seachtaine seo. Bí flaithiúil!

Beidh cuid mhaith imeachtaí Gaelacha san Fhéile. D’eagraigh Mary Porter, ábhar méara, céilí mór coicís ó shin i Halla Mhuire: bhí an áit lán go doras. Beidh céilí amuigh faoin aer ar an Domhnach. Má tá cumadóir amhrán Gaeilge amuigh ansin, ba chóir dó/di iontráil a chur isteach don chomórtas chumadóirí amhrán roimh an Déardaoin seo chugainn. Beidh siúlóid stairiúil dhátheangach thart timpeall an cheantair ar an Luan, 1 Lúnasa.

Tá suíomh idirlín galánta ag an Fhéile, ar a bhfuil eolas ar an Fhéile, chomh maith le stair na hócáide. Tá na grianghraif thar barr. Tá leagan Gaeilge ar fáil, ach ar an drochuair, Gaeilge an ríomhaire atá ann- ba chóir d’aistritheoirí Google snas a chur a gcuid Gaeilge! Mar sin de, tá Glór Mhaighe, an grúpa Gaeilge áitiúil, ag eagrú comórtas beag i mbliana: téigh chuig an suíomh (mufffestival.com), gabh chuig an leathanach ‘Siopa’, agus cuir Gaeilge chruinn ar an téacs. Beidh duais €25 ag dul don aistriúchán is fearr. Fág d’aistriúchán san Áisionad roimh an 27 Iúil.

MUFF FESTIVAL 2011

Bigger and better. Muff Festival has been going from strength to strength since it was founded 31 years ago. It will be held this year from Friday, 29 July til Monday, 1 August. As well as the weekend events, there will be other events before and after the Festival, for example, the gardening competition and the schools quiz. Details are to be found in the festival brochure, which is available in the local shops.

Two local organisations will benefit from the Mayoral Campaign this year: Muff Sheltered Housing and Muff Play Area, which is under construction at present. Both these worthy causes need financial support because of cut backs. Marion Molloy will be parachuting from a plane on Sunday to gather money for ‘Sheltered Housing’. Many people would dread going up in a plane, never mind jumping out of one!

Donny McColgan is organising a special collection for the Play Area this weekend. Be generous!

There will be a good number of Irish events in the festival. Mary Porter, the prospective Mayor, organised a céilí in St. Mary’s Hall a fortnight ago: the hall was packed. There will be an outdoor céilí on the Sunday of the Festival. If there is an Irish songwriter out there, he or she should send an entry in for the song writers’ competition before next Thursday. There will be a bilingual historical walk around the area on Monday, 1 August.

The Festival has a marvellous Internet site, which provides information on the Festival, as well as the history of the event. The photographs are excellent. There is an Irish language version of the site available, but unfortunately, it is in computer Irish. Google translators ought to brush up their Irish!

So Glór Mhaighe, the local Irish language group, is organising a little competition this year: go to the site (muffffestival.com), go to ‘Shop’ and translate the page into good Irish. There is a prize of €25 for the best translation. Leave your translation in the Resource Centre before 27 July.
