Goodbye to O’Driscoll

It is a measure of the man himself that Ireland’s Six Nations match against Italy on Saturday played second fiddle to the retiring hero, Brian O’Driscoll.

O’Driscoll showed us some of his magic in setting up two tries and then left the field to a fully deserved standing ovation.

It’s probably safe to say we will never see his likes again because at his best O’Driscoll was the full package.

He could defend as if his life depended on it but when needed could attack with pace and as if all that wasn’t enough he could also finish.

The rest of the Ireland players seemed determined to make sure that O’Driscoll would go out on a high as they ran in seven tries against a strong, determined Italian side but the day truly belonged to a rugby genius, Brian O’Driscoll on his last home game in the Aviva Stadium.
