Great to see the Culture Tech LineUp get more impressive by the day.

Ben Hammersley, Wired

Ben Hammersley is a British internet technologist, journalist, author, broadcaster, and diplomat, currently based in London.

He is currently the Prime Minister’s Ambassador to London’s Tech City, Editor at Large of Wired UK, and a member of the European Commission High Level Expert Group on Media Freedom. He is also a freelance reporter for the BBC, and a consultant to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Hammersley previously worked as the first Internet reporter for The Times, where he was shortlisted for one of the British Press Awards, and as a reporter for The Guardian and the UK arm of MSN. During his early career, he specialised in technology journalism. Hammersley often reported from dangerous countries, including Iran and Afghanistan.

After travelling undercover to interview the Burmese opposition leader and Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in 1999, Hammersley simultaneously moved toward war correspondence and technological innovation – reporting from war zones and writing technical book for publishers such as O’Reilly Media.

He is credited with inventing the word ‘podcasting’ and has previously been Director of Digital at Six Creative, Principal of Dangerous Precedent, and Director of Campus Party USA.

Dan Brazelton, Tall Chair (San Francisco)

With over 20 years experience in digital media, Dan has surfed through several major revolutions in new media. His success is founded in a passion for motion pictures, photography and storytelling. Now, as CEO ofTall Chair, Inc. he is driving technology and innovation to create new kinds of experiences on mobile devices.

Dan currently leads the Tall Chair team in the creation of the most advanced mobile transmedia development tool available, The Active Reader. In 2009 Cognito Comics approached the company to work on the graphic novel “Operation Ajax”. At the same time, Apple released the first iPad. Dan saw an opportunity. He set out to create an innovative mobile app for the graphic novel that questioned everything, including the validity of a page. The team created a dynamic publishing platform that puts development into the artists hands and transforms the readers experience.

Prior to Tall Chair, Dan worked at Crystal Dynamics, T.E.N., Maxis/EA and NBC. As his career advanced, he moved on to be Director of Digital Media for The Kenwood Group, President of Lamplighter Studios and The Executive Producer of Social Gaming Network. He is an avid photographer, cook and able bodied seaman.
