The City Hotel have partnered with The Void Gallery, School Employer Connections and Culture Company 2013 to create a unique and exciting opportunity for A Level Art students within the Derry City Council area.

All art works will be displayed at a special exhibition open to the public and free of charge at The Void Gallery, Patrick Street on June 29 and 30.

Judging will take place on Friday, June 29 at 2pm.

All post primary schools within the Derry City Council area have been invited to select two pieces of art to represent their school in the competition.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Our City”. The competition is designed to offer A Level Art students a platform to showcase their work and gain valuable experience and knowledge of the mechanics of a professional art exhibition.

Tracy Moore, HR Manager, City Hotel and co-ordinator of the project said: “We are very excited to have the hotel involved with schools in such a productive way, and to be in a position to offer students the opportunity to utilise their artistic talents. This project has provided us with a wealth of talent from local students. It’s a great way for the hotel to prepare for the city designation as ‘City of Culture 2013.”

First prize is £500 and the winning piece of art will be hung in the City Hotel for one year.

Second prize is £300 and third prize is £200.

All entries will receive £50 for being selected to represent their school in the competition.
