A new set of works to provide 700 new burial plots at the City Cemetery will get underway within weeks, it has been confirmed.
Derry City Council is to embark on a new phase of development at the cemetery later this month.
A council spokeswoman said the new project will “exploit the remaining undeveloped area of the cemetery, to provide for a further 700 burial plots”.
She added: “The proposed development works will consist of new access roads, retaining walls and improved car parking facilities.”
The development works are expected to be complete by the late summer of 2015.
The major development is the latest in a raft of extensions to the cemetery over recent years.
Meanwhile work is also starting at Ballyoan Cemetery over the autumn period, to provide additional burial plots, new pathways, road widening and vehicle storage facilities for cemeteries staff.
