A car fire in the Bishop Street area of the city on Wednesday was accidental, according to Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS).

Two men were treated at the scene of the fire and both were taken to Altnagelvin Hospital.

“NIFRS received a call at 5:24pm to a report of a car on Wednesday December 2,” confirmed a NIFRS spokesperson.

“One fire appliance from Crescent Link Fire Station and one fire appliance from Northland Fire Station were deployed to the scene. Fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the fire, following a medically required oxygen cylinder causing an explosion in the vehicle.

“A man in his 60s and another man in his 20s were treated at the scene for their injuries. Both men were taken to a nearby hospital.”

NIFRS finished at the scene at 6:01pm and the fire is being treated as accidental.
