Donegal North East TD, Padraigh MacLochlainn is calling for an indepdent inquiry into allegations that senior Gardai scrapped large numbers of penalty points without adequate explanation or supervision.

Speaking at the weekend the Buncrana Deputy said such an inquiry was necessary as the controversy surrounding the internal garda investigation had not allayed
fears.

The Sinn Fein spokesperson on Justice stated: “I have had the oppportunity to view a document outlining the whistle-blowers’ allegations.

“On that basis I’m surprised at the outcome of the internal Garda investation.Police investigating police is not always acceptable. That is why the office of Garda Ombudsman was established.

It is understood a number of garda are to face disciplinary action following the
report.
