Gobnascale woman Philomena O’Hagan is defying age and keeping herself active thanks to an incurable knitting habit!
Philomena, who spent decades as a supervisor at Derry’s Star Factory, has been busy lately - knitting tiny squares to create cosy warm blankets for the sick or infirm in Lourdes, France.
She began by just knitting squares, but so many individual squares emerged that now the sprightly octogenarian has created full blankets to give to those in need. Philomena worked on the blankets alongside her close friend and neighbour Bridie Lynch, and Anna Dillon from the Derry Trust Fund intends to take the completed blankets to Lourdes where they will be donated to hospitals to help keep the sick warm.
Though her eyes aren’t as strong as they used to be, it seems Philomena’s fingers are still as nimble as ever!
